The tiny fishing village of Búzios, about two hours north of Rio de Janeiro burst into prominence when French actress Brigitte Bardot visited there in her heyday. It has since grown to international repute, often likened to St. Tropez, and offers the visitor sandy white beaches and an all season climate.  During the day the town is deserted as everyone heads for the many beaches to show off their suntanned body or eat the delicious seafood readily available. At night the town sparkles as all the beautiful people vie with each other for attention.

There are more than 20 beaches with crystalline clear waters with average temperatures around 70 degrees Farenheit. From rip-roaring surf to calm clear inlets, there is a beach for everyone. It all depends on what beach experience you’re looking for. Many of Búzios' 23 glorious specimens are within walking distance of the town. Much better fun, however, is to hire an open-top buggy and decide which stretch of sand suits you best. Without a doubt beaches and watersports are THE  activity, along with seeing and being seen by the jet setters and beautiful people.

Night-time in Búzios is when its cobbled and immaculately manicured central area really comes alive. Well-groomed tourists amble down Rua das Pedras, the town's busiest street, casting a critical eye over the boutiques and international restaurants that run its length.

Buzios offers a sophisticated cosmopolitan nightlife in a bohemian, beach atmosphere. Action on the Rua das Pedras stretches into the wee hours as the in-crowd of Buzios gravitates to the city's bars and nightclubs many of which have live entertainment. This charming cobblestone street is lined with restaurants and shops and is known for its lively nightlife.

Many of the restaurants offer ocean view dining while some of the bars have tables right on the beach. Gourmets have a wide array of cuisines from which to choose, including Brazilian, Italian, French and Portuguese, Chinese and Thai Food.

The main strip, Rua das Pedras, is a little over 400 meters long, but it is crammed with entertainment options and shopping opportunities. The street has style, charm and a certain international flair with a strong Brazilian flavour at the same time. Shopping in Búzios offers a wide range of options ranging from the small traditional art shops to up market fashion and curios.
